THE TORCH OF THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD SUMMER GAMES ATHENS 2011 WAS INSPIRED BY ANCIENT GREECE
Simple and unadorned, and fully representative of the Special Olympics movement, the torch of the 2011 World Summer Games was presented today at a ceremony at the Zappeion Mansion. Created by Zolotas Jewelers in charcoal and gold, standing 45cm tall and weighing 1,450 grams, it is the torch that will carry the Flame of Hope during the torch-run which will end at the Olympic Stadium in Athens on 25 June 2011, at the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics World Summer Games.

EUBOEA JOINS SPECIAL OLYMPICS “HOST TOWN” PROGRAM
“We’re in!” said the political and church leaders of Euboea when presented with the “Host Town” program. In a ceremony that took place in the Prefecture Building, in Chalkis, a memorandum was signed, by which the Prefecture of Euboea officially joined the Program.

On Tuesday the 16th of February, during a warm and inspiring ceremony at the Athens City Hall was signed the Memorandum of Cooperation between the City of Athens and GOC. The Greek Organizing Committee of the Athens 2011 Special Olympics officially launched on Tuesday the Games' mascot in a press conference held at Zappeion, close to the Panathinaikon Stadium, where the modern Olympic Games were revived in 1896.
