Powerlifting gave Greece eight medals at the Special Olympics Summer Games Athens 2011. Giorgos Nikolakis and Christoforos Patsis stole the show at the 110kg category and celebrated their victory with their families, attending the events held at OAKA’s velodrome on July 3.
Nikolakis took three gold medals under category 11A in Squat (140kg), Dead Lift (170kg) and in total (380kg), and a bronze in Bench Press (70kg).
In the next category (11B), Patsis lifted the most kilos put on the lifting bar so far at the S.O., when he held at 240kg in Squat – an effort that naturally won him a gold medal. He also took three silvers, in Bench Press (102.5kg), Dead lift (205kg) and in total (547.5kg).
Also lifting at 110kg (category 11A) was Konstantinos Makentoudis, who won fourth in all lifts (85kg, 57.5kg, 110kg) and in total (252.5kg).
